In the image interpretation phase of drone survey, wombat burrows were searched for by viewing orthomosaic images at 1:100 scale, as shown here. Potentially active burrows were clearly evident in grassland (a, b). In tussock grassland, many burrows had their openings obscured by tussock grasses (c). Inactive burrows were also detected by drone and ground survey (d), but burrows were harder to discern as apparent time since occupation increased (e). Clustered, multiple openings to what was presumably the same burrow were often observed (f)
