Treatment levels on the x-axis are coded in the order species composition (species indicated by letters, A-E) and the frequency of temperature fluctuation (left = 1 h, right = 5 h). The effect of differences in the amplitude of temperature change can be evaluated by comparing panel (a) and (b), i.e. ± 4°C and ± 8°C amplitude respectively.
