Announcement: Launch of BMC Ecology and Evolution
We are pleased to announce that BMC Ecology and BMC Evolutionary Biology has now been merged into one journal and re-launched as BMC Ecology and Evolution. As a result BMC Ecology is no longer open to new submissions and will not publish any new articles. The scope of BMC Evolutionary Biology has now been expanded to include ecology submissions and authors in this field are encouraged to submit to this journal.

Earthworms are very sensitive to changes in the physio-chemical properties of soil in different agro-ecosystems, potentially having an effect on their diversity, abundance and overall survival. Understanding the physio-chemical properties of soil at a particular site may help to predict what species of earthworms are likely to be present. A study recently published in BMC Ecology looked at the diversity, abundance and distribution of earthworms in both cultivated and non-cultivated agro-ecosystems. Call for papers: Eco-evo-devo
The Editors of BMC Developmental Biology, BMC Ecology and BMC Evolutionary Biology welcome submissions to the cross-journal special issue on eco-evo-devo, the effect of the environment of development and evolution. Please click the above link for further information and to submit to the collection.
The special issue is open for submissions.
BMC Ecology now accepts Registered Reports
From August 24th, BMC Ecology will begin accepting a new type of article: Registered Reports. BMC Ecology is the first ecology journal to consider this innovative article format; please read our blog where we discuss what benefits we believe it can offer to ecologists.

January: Data sharing
Research data are the foundations of reliable and reproducible science. This month, we would like to highlight different ways authors were able to publish and share their data by choosing the BMC series.
